With over 10 years of clinical expertise in trauma-focused therapies and 20 years of rigorous health equity research, my research program aims to make treatment accessible, relevant, and effective for historically marginalized communities.

Research

  • Epigenetic and Neuroendocrine Links to ACEs (ENLACEs)

    The K08 ENLACEs project examines how biological stress mechanisms and sociocultural factors contribute to alcohol misuse in Latino adolescents. It aims to identify risk and protective factors shaping alcohol use behaviors.

  • Health-Oriented Latinx Addiction Survey (HOLAS)

    The HOLAS project examines risk and protective factors for alcohol and marijuana misuse among Latinx/Hispanic college students. Its findings aim to inform culturally tailored prevention programs and policies.

  • Parenting Program for Latino dads, moms, and preteens

    The RET intervention is a parenting intervention aimed at increasing children's emotional awareness and cognitive processing through parental sensitive guidance and elaboration. It aims to adapt the intervention to be dual parent, culturally responsive and tailored for Latino preadolescents and families.

  • Seguimos Avanzando

    The Seguimos Avanzando project examines how discrimination-related stressors affect Latino youths’ mental health across daily and long-term time scales. It seeks to identify risk and protective factors to inform interventions that reduce the impact of racism and improve mental health outcomes.
